Governors Babagana Zulum of Borno, Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta, Uba Sani of Kaduna, Hope Uzodinma of Imo, and Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa have been nominated for the 2025 African Governors Excellence Award.

According to a statement by Dr Idahosa Osamahze, Vice Chairman of the Selection Committee, the award ceremony is scheduled to take place on 19 August in Paris.

He explained that the initiative is intended to promote excellence in public service, encourage innovation in governance, and foster best practices in leadership for Africa’s socio-economic advancement.

Osamahze said the prestigious award will recognise visionary leadership, exceptional governance, and impactful development efforts by governors across the continent.

He noted that the nominations highlight a commitment to driving sustainable socio-economic transformation in the respective regions and states of the nominees.

He added that the award is structured to spotlight transformative projects in healthcare, infrastructure, education, economic empowerment, and inclusive governance.

From Egypt, the nominees include Gov. Abdel Amara of Kafr El Sheikh, Gov. Amr Hanafi of Red Sea, Gov. Gamal Nour El-Din of Asyut, and Gov. Khaled Fouda of South Sinai.

Kenya’s nominees include Gov. Hillary Barchok of Bomet County, Gov. George Natembeya of Trans Nzoia, Gov. Mohamed Adan Khalif of Mandera, and Gov. Jeremiah Lomorukai of Turkana.

“These governors exemplify what leadership with vision, integrity, and purpose can achieve. Their work is changing lives, fostering prosperity, and inspiring a new generation of public servants across Africa,” he said.

The Paris ceremony is expected to draw high-profile dignitaries, development partners, diplomats, and stakeholders from across Africa and Europe.

Osamahze also stated that the event will feature keynote addresses from global policy leaders, panel discussions on innovation in sub-national governance, and networking sessions to enhance intergovernmental collaboration.
