The University of Port Harcourt (UniPort) continues to raise the bar in academic excellence and service delivery with recent developments in its General Studies (GES) Unit and a national recognition secured by two of its students.

During a recent visit to the General Studies Unit at the university’s Choba campus, the Director of the Unit, Professor Joseph Akhigbe, and the Assistant Director, Mr. Victor Ibubeleye, took members of the media on a tour of the newly improved facility. The leadership of the unit assured that challenges such as missing results had become a thing of the past, affirming their commitment to enhanced service delivery for students.

We are fully poised for excellence. Our systems have been upgraded, and we have put in place structures that will ensure efficiency and transparency,” Prof. Akhigbe stated.

He further disclosed that the GES Board is scheduled to meet tomorrow to consider the results of the recently concluded first-semester examinations. The goal, he said, is to ensure the prompt release of students’ results in line with the Vice-Chancellor’s vision of academic efficiency.

Meanwhile, UniPort recorded another milestone in academic achievement as two of its students emerged winners in the prestigious Distinction AI Quizathon Competition, organized by FlexiSAF for tertiary institutions across Nigeria.

The students Ukwunnah Chinemerem of the Department of Geography and Environmental Management, and Agarry Promise of the Department of Mechanical Engineering — were declared champions in the technology-driven quiz focused on Artificial Intelligence (AI) and innovation.

The Vice Chancellor, Professor Owunari Georgewill, praised the outstanding performance of the students via his official social media handle, noting that their achievement has once again placed the name of the university on the national map of academic excellence.

We commend the deans of the two faculties, the respective departments, and the students themselves for bringing such honour to the University of Port Harcourt,” Prof. Georgewill stated.

The twin developments -the revamp of the General Studies Unit and the AI competition victory have been widely celebrated within the university community as signs of focused leadership and a thriving academic culture.
