The House of Representatives Committee on Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and Ancillary Matters has vowed to ensure strict supervision of road projects within the territory, aiming for timely and high-quality delivery.
Rep. Fred Agbedi (PDP-Bayelsa), Chairman of the committee, made the commitment during an oversight inspection of three ongoing road projects in the FCT. These projects are managed by the Satellite Towns Development Department (STDD) of the FCT.
Agbedi emphasized that the committee’s role was to ensure the projects meet the required standards and provide value for money for the Nigerian people. He assured that the committee would collaborate closely with the relevant ministry to ensure the necessary funds were allocated and properly managed for the successful completion of the projects.
“We, as parliament, are ready to work with the ministry to ensure that funds are made available and appropriated to deliver service to our people,” Agbedi stated. “This road will open up the entire area, and we can see that the contractor is doing his best. What we are here for is to ensure that there is value for money, as appropriated.”
The committee expressed satisfaction with the progress of the work but encouraged the contractor to expedite efforts as the road is set for inauguration in May to coincide with the second anniversary of President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
The committee also pledged to work closely with the STDD to resolve any issues that could potentially delay the completion of the road projects.
Earlier, the Coordinator of STDD, Mr. Abdulkadir Kiflu, commended the committee for its dedication to ensuring that projects enhance the quality of life for Nigerians. He assured that steps had been taken to meet all deadlines and maintain high standards in the ongoing work.
