All Progressives Congress (APC) stakeholders in Abia State have committed to ensuring the state is delivered to President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 elections and to wrest power from the current Labour Party (LP) government under Governor Alex Otti.
The pledge was made during a meeting held on Friday in Abuja, convened by Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, a former governor of the state. The meeting, which took place at Kalu’s residence, was attended by several prominent APC figures, including the APC National Welfare Secretary, Donatus Nwankpa, Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Nkeiruka Onyejeocha, and others.
Speaking after the meeting, Kalu expressed his satisfaction with the unity now prevailing within the Abia APC. He attributed the unity to the recent directive from President Tinubu during the APC National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting, where he urged the party to reconcile and unite its members in Abia.
“We are now more united than ever, thanks to the president’s directive,” Kalu said. “He knows we are capable of achieving this unity.”
Kalu emphasized that the people of Abia would benefit significantly if the state aligned with mainstream politics, which, in turn, would lead to greater federal government support. He praised the interventions of both former President Muhammadu Buhari and President Tinubu in Abia North and promised that similar benefits would reach all three senatorial districts once the state joins the APC.
Kalu further assured that the APC stakeholders would work diligently to unite the state and bring it back to a position of strength within Nigerian politics. He invited opposition members to join their efforts, calling on them to recognize the long-term benefits of aligning with the APC for the sake of the people of Abia.
He also reiterated his commitment to presenting credible candidates in the 2027 elections and assured the people of Abia that the APC’s leadership was fully dedicated to working for their prosperity.
The APC National Welfare Secretary, Nwankpa, also spoke at the meeting, noting that the party in Abia had experienced a significant influx of members from other political parties in recent years, with more than 70% of former Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) members joining the APC.
Nwankpa appealed for unity within the party, urging Abia APC leaders to set aside individual differences and focus on working together for the success of the party and the state.
The APC leadership assured its unwavering support for the party’s efforts in Abia, pledging to work tirelessly to ensure the party’s victory in 2027.
