In a fresh stride toward inter-institutional collaboration, the University of Port Harcourt has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Baptist Theological Seminary (BTS), Delta State. StarReporters gathered this development through an official update from the Vice Chancellor’s office.
Announcing the signing, Prof. Owunari Georgewill, Vice Chancellor of the University of Port Harcourt, disclosed that the agreement would allow for the delivery of the BA Music degree of UNIPORT at the BTS Delta State campus. The move marks a significant academic partnership that aims to bridge theological and musical education under a unified, accredited framework.
The Baptist Theological Seminary, Delta State, operates under the umbrella of the Nigerian Baptist Theological Seminary (NBTS)—a premier institution known for its Biblical and theological education and specialised training for God-called persons in ministry.
According to Prof. Georgewill, the agreement represents more than just academic expansion.
“It paves the way for enhanced access to quality music education in ministry-based settings,” he said.
“This collaboration not only affirms the university’s commitment to flexible learning models but also expands our reach in nurturing talents that combine both spiritual and musical excellence.”
The President of BTS, Delta State Professor Helen Ishiola-Esan, signed on behalf of the seminary during the MoU ceremony, cementing the shared vision of both institutions.
Correspondents gathered that the signing of the MoU is expected to set the pace for further engagements, curriculum alignment, and formal implementation of the BA Music programme within the theological seminary’s structure.
Stakeholders from both institutions expressed optimism that the partnership will produce well-rounded graduates equipped for service in both ecclesiastical and secular musical spaces.
