The Labour Party (LP) candidate for Nov. 8 governorship election in Anambra, Dr George Muoghalu, has stressed the need for LP leaders and members to come together for a peaceful and stronger party.
Muoghalu stated this on Sunday in Abuja in an interview with journalist.
He said the long internal crisis within the party was an ill-wind that would blow no one any good, saying that it was high time it was better to amicably resolved for a stronger Labour Party.
Muoghalu, the immediate past Managing Director of National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA), said that the must be in peace for it to make an impact in the country’s political space.
“I have always pleaded that there is the need for unity, for everybody to come together. That is the only way the party can remain strong and be able to make the necessary impact.
“So for me, I have always said that whatever may be the level of disagreement, even to the point of war, that all sorts of disagreements have always ended at the negotiating table.
“No disagreement has ended in the war field. It has always been at the roundtable. So for me, the opportunity is still there because everybody is needed,’’ he said.
Muoghalu expressed the belief that as relevant authorities gave definitions to the recent Supreme Court judgment by way of explanation, the situation would become clearer.
He, however, maintained that the Labour Party crisis remained a family matter and that it would be resolved internally, irrespective of the nature of the disagreement.
“I am one person who is standing on the path of peace from all sides, because a peaceful Labour Party is to the benefit of all of us.
“We have to be together, strong, and dependent on one another for us to provide the needed opposition,’’ Muoghalu said.
