Zamfara Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has commenced special patrols to enforce the compulsory use of speed limiting devices by all categories of vehicles as part of measures to reduce highway crashes.

This was contained in a statement issued by the Command’s Public Education Officer, Aliyu Isah, in Gusau on Thursday.

According to the command, the decision followed persistent reports of reckless driving by large truck operators transiting through Zamfara, “most often with overloading or mixed loading, combined with excessive speed.”

The command added that all other traffic violations would also be addressed during the exercise.

It noted that the patrol teams would apprehend offenders engaged in practices such as mixed loading of goods, animals and passengers in trucks, overloading, and failure to install speed limiting devices.

Sector Commander Aliyu Ma’aji urged motorists to cooperate with corps personnel to guarantee their safety and promote safer road use in the state.

Ma’aji stressed the importance of strict adherence to road safety regulations, particularly the activation of speed limiting devices.

He further cautioned motorists on the Zamfara-Sokoto highway against plying the route with unregistered vehicles or concealing number plates, warning that offenders risk prosecution.
