Vietnam’s Ministry of Health has urged the public to stay alert and continue observing COVID-19 prevention protocols as global infections rise and domestic cases show a mild increase.

The ministry issued the advisory on Wednesday, encouraging measures such as wearing face masks in public and avoiding large gatherings. The call comes amid growing international concern over new subvariants, particularly in neighbouring Thailand.

Since the start of 2025, Vietnam has recorded 148 sporadic COVID-19 cases across 27 provinces and cities, with no deaths reported.

Although there have been no major outbreaks, health officials have observed a steady weekly rise in infections over the last three weeks, averaging 20 new cases per week.

Authorities have cautioned that new infections may increase in the coming weeks, particularly after recent public holidays that involved extensive travel and social interaction.

Despite the slight rise, the ministry does not expect a significant increase in severe cases.
