The University of Port Harcourt (UNIPORT) and the United States (US) government are strengthening their partnership through ongoing educational and diplomatic engagements aimed at fostering mutual development and leadership exchange.

This was as Amanda Roach Brown, Deputy Public Affairs Officer at the United States Consulate in Lagos, visited the University of Port Harcourt to further consolidate the collaboration between the institution and the US.

According to the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Owunari Georgewill, who shared the update in a post on his official social media handle, the visit marked a significant step in deepening ties.

We received Brown and her team at the University of Port Harcourt,” he noted. “She is in the University to further develop the strategic partnership between the United States Consulate Lagos and the University of Port Harcourt.”

A key highlight of the visit was Brown’s participation in a series of events held at the American Corner of the University.

Starreporters gathered that The Corner, established to serve as a space for cultural, academic and civic engagement, has become central to the institution’s growing relationship with the US.

Prof. Georgewill also revealed that two students of the University, Eruchala and a colleague, who were previously selected through a rigorous process to attend a leadership exchange programme in the United States, accompanied Brown on the visit.

The Vice-Chancellor described the occasion as an encouraging sign of fruitful international collaboration, sharing photos that captured moments from the engagement, including meetings, a signing ceremony, and formal presentations involving Brown and top University officials.
