The Unity Advance Group (UAG), a non-governmental organization, has urged Nigerians to exercise restraint in the wake of the recent killings in Uromi, Edo State, to prevent further violence and unrest.
At a news conference held on Friday in Abuja, Mr. Ifeanyi Aigbedion, the convener of the group, expressed concern over the escalating tensions in some parts of the country as a result of the killings. He emphasized the need for restraint and cooperation with security agencies to avoid a broader crisis.
Aigbedion condemned the killings and stressed that such acts of violence could exacerbate the country’s economic challenges. He called on all Nigerians, especially those directly affected by the incident, to trust the security agencies in bringing the perpetrators to justice.
“It is essential that we learn to tolerate each other and refrain from taking the law into our own hands,” Aigbedion said. “The Armed Forces of Nigeria, under the leadership of Gen. Christopher Musa, have enough responsibilities at hand. We must not burden our security agencies further.”
Aigbedion further warned that persistent insecurity would hinder the nation’s progress and called for calm among those affected by the incident.
He also praised the political leaders in Edo and Kano States for their efforts to de-escalate the situation and lauded Gen. Musa for assuring the affected families of justice and promising that the armed forces would work closely with other security agencies to ensure peace.
