The University of Port Harcourt has officially commenced its much-anticipated Golden Jubilee celebrations alongside its 35th Combined Convocation. The festivities began in a vibrant and victorious fashion, signaling the start of a series of commemorative events that reflect the university’s rich history and forward-looking spirit.

The opening day featured a successful campus rally that brought together the university’s management, academic and non-academic staff, students, and stakeholders. Participants were adorned in colorful customized T-shirts and face caps, creating a carnival-like atmosphere that highlighted the enthusiasm and pride of the UniPort community. The event continued with a high-level press briefing, setting the tone for what promises to be a memorable celebration of excellence.

Adding to the excitement was a special documentary screening at the CBN Centre of Excellence Auditorium. The film chronicled the evolution of the University of Port Harcourt from its humble beginnings in 1975 to its current status as a world-class institution. It provided attendees with a deep appreciation of the institution’s journey and achievements over the past five decades.

Guests were also treated to a scientific exhibition that showcased groundbreaking research and innovations from various faculties, institutes, and the College of Health Sciences. Another major highlight was the exhibition at the university library, which featured a pictorial timeline of the institution’s development from 1975 to 2025. The visual journey left attendees inspired and reminded all of the university’s enduring impact on education, research, and society.

Day one of the celebrations attracted a large, enthusiastic crowd and was widely regarded as a resounding success. As the events continue, the University of Port Harcourt stands proud celebrating 50 years of academic excellence, innovation, and service to Nigeria and the world.
