The University of Port Harcourt has once again demonstrated its commitment to academic excellence and intellectual engagement by successfully hosting an Inter-Faculty Debate competition. The event, which culminated in an electrifying final round on July 31st, 2025, saw the Faculty of Science emerging as the well-deserved winner.

The debate was organized by the Academic Planning, Research and Control Unit in collaboration with the UniPort Debate Club. It drew participation from various faculties within the university, highlighting the spirit of healthy competition, critical thinking, and articulate expression that the institution continues to foster among its students.

The event was generously sponsored by Professor Joseph Ajienka, a former Vice-Chancellor of the University of Port Harcourt. His contribution significantly enhanced the scale and impact of the program, promoting a vibrant culture of debate and knowledge sharing within the university.

In a statement, the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Owunari Georgewill, praised the efforts of the organizers and the sponsor, commending their dedication to enriching the academic experience of students. He emphasized that promoting debate culture is essential for building a more intellectually dynamic university community and for shaping future leaders who are confident, informed, and capable of critical reasoning.

Special recognition was given to the Faculty of Science, its Dean Professor Ogugbuaja, and the entire team of staff and students who contributed to the faculty’s outstanding performance in the debate. The win is not just a victory in a competition but a reflection of the faculty’s academic strength, teamwork, and passion for excellence.
