The Central Appointments and Promotion Committee of the University of Port Harcourt has commenced its annual exercise to appraise and consider submissions for staff promotions across the institution. The exercise, which underscores the importance of motivation in the workforce, focused

on staff members who have met the requirements for advancement.According to the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Owunari Georgewill, the submissions were presented from the College of Health Sciences and other Faculties of the University. Each submission had gone through the due process at the departmental, faculty, and college levels before being tabled for final consideration by the Committee.

The Provost of the College and the Deans of Faculties presented the recommendations.During the meeting, members carefully evaluated each case to ensure fairness and meritocracy in line with the University’s promotion guidelines.

Prof. Georgewill emphasized that the exercise is not only a recognition of staff contributions but also a critical measure to boost morale and encourage excellence within the University system.Promotion, he noted, remains a key driver for productivity, and the University is committed to ensuring that deserving staff are duly recognized and rewarded.

The appraisal process ensures that every staff member is evaluated accordingly, and appropriate decisions are made to reflect their dedication and service.This appraisal session reflects the University of Port Harcourt’s continuous commitment to academic and professional growth, while maintaining a workforce that is both motivated and forward-looking.
