The University of Port Harcourt is set to conduct elections for new representatives of Congregation into its Governing Council, Boards, and Committees, Starreporters has learned.

According to a press release obtained by correspondence, the elections are scheduled to hold on Thursday, April 17, 2025, during the 77th Meeting of Congregation. The meeting is expected to commence at 9:00 a.m. at the New Convocation Arena, University Park.

Signed by Dr. Sam Kpenu, Head of Information, Publications and Public Relations: Office of the Vice Chancellor, the document indicated that the exercise marks the end of the current representatives’ four-year tenure.

A total of 32 new representatives will be elected into 16 Boards and Committees of the institution,” the statement read.

The university outlined key bodies that will be involved in the elections, including the Governing Council, the Academic and SPATS Appointments and Promotions Committees (A&PC), the Capital/Procurement Committee, University Press, and the Health & Medical Services Advisory Board.

The positions are expected to be filled by members drawn from the academic, administrative, and technical staff categories.

The university invited all members of Congregation to attend the meeting, urging them to be seated promptly to ensure a smooth and timely conduct of the proceedings.

Efforts to obtain additional comments from university authorities were ongoing as of the time of filing this report.
