The University of Port Harcourt (UNIPORT) has reaffirmed its commitment to global collaboration through its growing partnership with the People’s Republic of China. This was highlighted during a courtesy meeting between representatives of UNIPORT and the Chinese Consul General, where both parties discussed ongoing and future areas of cooperation.

According to the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Owunari Georgewill, the University remains deeply grateful for the enduring support from the Chinese Consulate. He noted that the partnership has already yielded significant results, including the establishment of a “Window to China” project currently under construction by the China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC).

In addition, the collaboration has created opportunities for staff participation in several conferences held in China, while also enabling Chinese academics to attend conferences hosted by UNIPORT. The frequent visits of the Chinese Consul General to the University further underscore the mutual commitment to strengthening educational and cultural exchange.

During the visit, discussions centered on expanding academic cooperation, fostering joint research, and promoting cultural ties between Nigeria and China. Symbolic exchanges of gifts and goodwill further emphasized the spirit of friendship driving the collaboration.

The University community has welcomed the partnership as a step toward enhancing international exposure, academic excellence, and infrastructural growth. With projects like the “Window to China” and increased scholarly engagement, UNIPORT is positioning itself as a hub for global knowledge exchange in Nigeria.
