The University of Port Harcourt commenced its 35th Combined Convocation with a grand celebration recognizing academic excellence and visionary leadership. Day 1 of the event witnessed the formal graduation of students from various academic tiers, with first-degree graduates earning Bachelor’s degrees, while Post Graduate Diploma and Master’s degree holders were awarded their respective higher qualifications.

A highlight of the ceremony was the recognition of His Excellency Senator Duoye Diri, Governor of Bayelsa State, who received dual honors as a Distinguished Alumnus and recipient of the prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award. This recognition was in collaboration with the University of Port Harcourt, celebrating his commitment to education and public service.

Prior to the award ceremony, Governor Diri delivered an impactful convocation lecture where he stressed the importance of technological advancement and innovation across Nigerian universities. He highlighted the critical role of tech-driven education in national development and pledged to contribute meaningfully by supporting the welfare of academic staff. His promise to construct staff quarters for the university generated a wave of applause and appreciation from the crowd.
