The United Kingdom has announced the rollout of a digital eVisa system for study and work visa applicants, effective 15 July.
British Deputy High Commissioner in Abuja, Mrs Gill Lever, disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday, explaining that the development is part of the UK’s transition to a fully digital immigration system.
According to her, the eVisa will replace the traditional visa vignette or passport sticker for successful applicants.
“We are making it easier and faster for Nigerians to travel to the UK,” she said, noting that the new process aims to enhance security, efficiency, and convenience for students, professionals, and families.
However, she clarified that applicants applying as dependants or for visa types such as standard visitor visas will still receive physical visa stickers.
Lever stated that applicants must still visit visa application centres to submit biometric data as part of the processing requirements.UK Launches Digital eVisa for Study, Work Applicants
Once a decision is reached on an application, candidates will receive an email from UK Visas and Immigration with the outcome and guidance to create a UKVI account to access their eVisa.
She also noted that the eVisa system has already replaced Biometric Residence Permits for individuals granted leave exceeding six months.
“Customers with a UKVI account can use the view and prove service to securely share their immigration status with third parties, such as employers or landlords,” she added.
