A trailer loaded with goods has crushed a Muslim faithful to death while he was rushing for Friday prayers at Nkpolu junction on the East-West Road in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State.
The incident occurred around 2:05 pm when the victim, crossing the busy road, was first knocked down by a black SUV and subsequently run over by a trailer travelling at high speed.
A witness, who gave his name simply as Tunde, said the victim was following other worshippers to the mosque but failed to observe traffic before stepping onto the road.
“The other worshippers had crossed, but he did not pay attention and was knocked down by the SUV. The trailer behind it ran him over, dismembering the body beyond recognition,” he said.
Following the accident, fellow Muslim faithful blocked the highway in protest until police operatives arrived and restored order. The remains of the victim were later taken for burial.
