In a heartbreaking incident on Monday, July 21, 2025, a Bangladesh Air Force F-7 BGI training jet crashed into the Milestone School and College in Uttara, Dhaka, during school hours, resulting in a devastating loss of life and numerous injuries.

The jet reportedly went down at approximately 1:06 p.m. local time, slamming into the school’s canteen area where many students had gathered. According to official reports, at least 18 to 19 people have been confirmed dead, including the pilot. Over 100 individuals, mostly students, sustained injuries many suffering from serious burns and trauma.

The aircraft, identified as a Chinese made Chengdu F-7 BGI, had taken off from BAF Base Bir Uttom A.K. Khandker and was on a routine training mission. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.

Eyewitnesses described scenes of chaos and horror as the plane exploded on impact. Flames and thick smoke engulfed the school premises, while terrified students ran for safety. Civilians and emergency responders acted swiftly, transporting the wounded using rickshaws and ambulances to nearby hospitals.

Bangladesh’s interim national leader, Muhammad Yunus, expressed deep sorrow over the incident. He pledged full government support for the victims’ families and promised a thorough investigation into the crash. In honor of the victims, a national day of mourning has been declared for July 22.

This tragic event has shocked the nation and raised serious concerns about military flight operations over densely populated areas. The entire country and indeed, the world mourns with the grieving families.
