The Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps (TRACE) in Ogun State has issued a stern warning to motorists against driving against traffic, citing a disturbing rise in fatalities linked to the offence.
TRACE South-West Area Commander, Mr Adekunle Ajibade, gave the warning during an interview on Wednesday in Ota.
He described driving against traffic as a highly dangerous act, stating, “Driving against traffic kills faster than HIV.”
Ajibade said the warning was prompted by a spate of fatal accidents in Ota and nearby areas resulting from motorists ignoring traffic regulations.
He urged members of the public to desist from pleading on behalf of offenders caught committing the offence, noting that enforcement efforts would be stepped up across the state.
He added that the Corps Commander of TRACE, Dr Seni Ogunyemi, had instructed all divisional offices to intensify enforcement campaigns and apply strict penalties to violators.
Ajibade also advised motorists to avoid dangerous overtaking and to adhere to speed limits in order to minimise crash risks.
