President Bola Tinubu has called on politicians from the South-East to emulate the brand of inclusive politics championed by the late Dr Michael Okpara, Premier of the defunct Eastern Region.
Tinubu gave the charge on Friday while inaugurating the renovated and retrofitted Michael Okpara Auditorium in Umuahia.
Represented by the Minister of Works, Senator Dave Umahi, the president described Okpara as a visionary politician who placed the region at the centre of national politics and contributed meaningfully to nation building.
He commended the Abia State Government for transforming the auditorium into a modern landmark befitting Okpara’s legacy.
Tinubu reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to inclusiveness, stressing that both federal and state projects must ultimately improve the lives of the people. “Projects, whether they are federal or state, the important thing is to touch the lives of the people of our state,” he said.
Governor Alex Otti, in his remarks, said the auditorium had been abandoned for many years until his administration began renovations in 2023. “Today, it is a standing edifice worthy of beholding and by the time we make a step inside, Your Excellency, you will be happy with the quality of work that is done,” he said.
The event was attended by the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mr Benjamin Kalu, Senator Enyinnya Abaribe, Abia Deputy Governor Ikechukwu Emetu, Speaker of Abia House of Assembly Emmanuel Emeruwa, former Deputy Governor Ude Oko-Chukwu, and other dignitaries.
