The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Alhaji Mohammed Idris Malagi, says President Bola Tinubu’s administration is committed to partnering with the media to deepen democracy and build a united, safe, and prosperous nation.
Malagi stated this on Wednesday in Abuja at the inauguration of Pinnacle Daily, a new online newspaper established by Pinnacle Digital Resources Ltd.
Represented by the Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Press Council, Dr. Dili Ezughah, the minister congratulated the management of Pinnacle Digital Resources for the initiative, describing it as a demonstration of confidence in journalism’s role in national development.
He noted that the platform’s launch came at a crucial time in Nigeria’s democratic journey and urged media professionals to uphold ethics and social responsibility in their work.
“In carrying out your important role as purveyors of information for mass consumption, always remember the need to adhere to the ethics and codes of our noble profession.
Truth, fairness, justice, and social responsibility must be evident in your work at all times,” Malagi said.
Delivering a keynote address titled “Economics of Media Business: Understanding Revenue Models and Profitability,” veteran media executive Mr. Isiaq Ajibola described the emergence of Pinnacle Daily as a timely development in Nigeria’s fast-evolving digital media landscape.
Ajibola, who has nearly three decades of experience in the Nigerian media industry, traced the origins of print journalism from Europe to Nigeria’s early publications such as the West African Pilot and Daily Times.
He said the rise of the internet and social media had revolutionised global news delivery, urging media houses to innovate or risk extinction.
“Information now moves at the speed of light. Readers no longer wait for tomorrow’s paper; they want breaking news, analysis, video, and conversation in real time,” Ajibola said.
In his remarks, former Governor of Ogun State, Chief Olusegun Osoba, who chaired the event and was represented by Chief Eric Teniola, commended the promoters of Pinnacle Daily for launching the publication despite economic challenges facing the media industry.
Osoba, a veteran journalist, noted that while technology and artificial intelligence had redefined journalism, ethical standards remained the hallmark of credible practice.
“Journalism will continue to thrive as long as professionals stay true to ethics and the pursuit of truth. Citizen journalism has expanded access to information, but it also raises concerns about accuracy, standards, and ethics. The duty to uphold professionalism rests with us,” he said.
Osoba also praised both legacy and digital media organisations for their resilience and continued commitment to journalism as a tool for democracy and public enlightenment.
The Chairman of Pinnacle Digital Resources Ltd., Mr. Abimbola Adeseyoju, said the establishment of Pinnacle Daily was inspired by the need to create a value-driven, credible media platform tailored to the needs of today’s information consumers.
According to him, the platform aims to help readers make informed decisions in sectors such as business, career, health, education, and entertainment.
“Our vision is for Pinnacle Daily to be the trusted choice for this generation, a platform that empowers Nigerians with credible information for personal and economic growth,” Adeseyoju said.
He emphasised that technology alone could not guarantee success in the digital news ecosystem, adding that understanding audience behaviour was more critical.
“Technology is only a tool. What matters most is understanding the preferences of the modern news consumer,” he said.
Adeseyoju expressed optimism that Pinnacle Daily would grow into a sustainable and profitable media enterprise anchored on professionalism, innovation, and public service.
