A 15-year-old Syrian national has gone on trial in Berlin, nearly a year after Taylor Swift’s concerts in Vienna were cancelled due to security threats.

The teenager is facing charges of supporting a terrorist organisation and aiding in the planning of a serious act of violence.

According to prosecutors, he allegedly assisted a 19-year-old Austrian suspect by translating bomb-making instructions and facilitating contact with a member of the Islamic State group. He is also reported to have sent a pledge of allegiance template to the older suspect.

The concerts, which were scheduled for August 2024, were cancelled amid concerns over a potential terror attack.

The trial is being held behind closed doors due to the defendant’s age. He remains free while proceedings continue.

Austrian authorities have confirmed that no further suspects are currently being pursued.
