Sultanate Council Announces Search for Ramadan 1446AH New Moon Begins February 28
The Sultanate Council has officially announced that Friday, February 28, will initiate the search for the new moon of Ramadan for the year 1446AH. This declaration was made by the Wazirin Sokoto and Chairman of the Advisory Committee on Religious Affairs, Professor Sambo Wali Junaidu, in a statement released on Thursday.
In the statement, Muslims across the region are encouraged to look for the crescent moon on Friday evening and report any sightings to their nearest District or Village Head. These reports will subsequently be communicated to the Sultan of Sokoto and President of the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, who will make a formal announcement regarding the commencement of Ramadan.
The sighting of the moon holds significant importance in the Islamic calendar, marking the beginning of the holy month of fasting and reflection for Muslims worldwide.
