There is hope that issues leading to the indefinite strike embarked upon by the Oyo State-owned tertiary institutions may be resolved on Thursday.

Dr Kola Lawal, Chairman, Joint Action Committee (JAC) of the tertiary institutions, stated this in an interview with Star Reporters in Ibadan on Wednesday.

Lawal says the unions will be meeting and thereafter disclose their resolutions on Thursday.

“We met yesterday (Tuesday) with the government and management, where we reached some decisions; we are trying to see how we will implement those decisions.

“We have called a meeting of the unions for us to deliberate and take a final position.

“We are already working on documentation, and hopefully, we will resolve it tomorrow (Thursday),” he said.

NAN reports that the strike, which began on Monday, has been effective at The Polytechnic, Ibadan (TPI), grounding activities to zero.

There was no movement in and out of TPI, just as students could not continue with their examinations, which started on Friday.

NAN recalls that Monday’s meeting of the unions’ representatives with the Oyo State Government and heads of the tertiary institutions ended in a deadlock.

However, a consensus on how to address the issues raised by the unions was reached on Tuesday.

The institutions declared the strike following the non-payment of staff minimum wage and other arrears such as the implementation of the approved 25 and 35 per cent salary increment.

The affected institutions are The Polytechnic, Ibadan; Adeseun Ogundoyin Polytechnic, Eruwa and The Okeogun Polytechnic, Saki.

Others are The College of Agriculture and Technology, Igboora, and The Oyo State College of Education, Lanlate.
