Naija Ratels FC of Abuja unsettle Heartland Queens of Owerri in the Sheroes Cup last group game as the home side secured a decisive 2-0 victory in the encounter.

The game, which promised to be a tight contest early on, saw Naija Ratels put up a commanding performance to seal their second spot in the group behind winners, Bayelsa Queens and gaining a semifinal qualification spot.

The match at the Area 3 Sports Complex, began with both teams showing attacking intents but it was Heartland Queens’ goalkeeper, Amarachi Atulayo who kept her side in contention early on.In the 14th minute, Atulayo produced a crucial save to deny Naija Ratels an early lead.

Moments later, Heartland Queens captain Chimebere Opara unleashed a powerful strike from distance but her effort narrowly missed the target drawing gasps from the spectators.

Naija Ratels continued to press, creating chances that kept the Owerri side defence on high alert.

In spite their dominance, the opening goal remained elusive until the 38th minute when Zipporah Agama broke the deadlock

The forward showed exceptional composure to finish clinically and hand her team a well-deserved lead.

Agama was not done yet, as she doubled her tally just five minutes later with a brilliant solo effort.

After rounding the goalkeeper the lanky attacker slotted the ball into an empty net, leaving the Heartland defence helpless.

The second half saw Heartland Queens attempt a comeback but their efforts were thwarted by Naija Ratels’ solid defensive organisation.

In spite increased possession and few half chances, the Owerri landladies struggled to find their rhythm in the attacking third.

Naija Ratels, on the other hand, managed the game effectively, ensuring their opponents had limited opportunities to test their goalkeeper.

Ratels will face Group A winners, Remo Stars Ladies in the semifinals on Tuesday while Abuja Angels will go head to head with Bayelsa Queens in the second semifinals.
