Seven farmers abducted from their farmlands in Itaogbolu, Akure North LGA of Ondo State have been released after five days in captivity.

The victims were seized on Saturday while working on their farms by armed men.

A relative of one of the abductees, who requested anonymity, confirmed their release on Wednesday night. According to him, the kidnappers initially demanded N100 million, later reduced to N20 million, but eventually collected N5 million along with food items before releasing the victims in Ikere-Ekiti, Ekiti State.

“All seven were released Wednesday night. They are now back with their families and receiving medical care,” he said.

Attempts to reach the Ondo State Commander of Amotekun Corps, Adetunji Adeleye, were unsuccessful, as his phone calls went unanswered.

The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, DSP Olushola Ayanlade, said he was not aware of their release.
