In an effort to enhance the quality of criminal investigations in alignment with judicial standards, the Rivers State Administration of Criminal Justice Monitoring Council has introduced a new Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for the Police and the Director of Public Prosecutions desk.
The initiative was formally launched by the Chief Judge of Rivers State and Chairman of the council, Justice Simeon Amadi, during a presentation to law enforcement and the Ministry of Justice in Port Harcourt.
Justice Amadi stated that the SOP is designed to assist prosecutors and legal practitioners in conducting evidence-based investigations, ensuring that cases meet the necessary standards for the justice system.
Chief Magistrate IIanye Brown, who also serves as the Executive Secretary of the Rivers State Administration of Criminal Justice Monitoring Council, elaborated on the need for the SOP, noting that many criminal investigations currently fall short of meeting judicial standards.
