In a significant move towards enhancing maritime operations in the region, the Rivers State Government has officially signed an agreement with Acergy Marine and Oilfields Services Limited for the development and management of the Rivers State Transport Marine Jetty. The agreement was signed by the state’s Commissioner for Transport, Collins Onunwo, on behalf of Governor Siminalayi Fubara.
Following the signing ceremony, Onunwo emphasized that the initiative aims to revitalize the jetty, transforming it into a bustling economic hub for marine businesses while generating employment opportunities for the state’s youth. He highlighted that the agreement includes plans for dredging the jetty and upgrading its facilities to accommodate various activities, such as offshore structure fabrication, steel blasting, painting, and other essential marine operations.
Aliyu Shehu, a director at Acergy Marine and Oilfields Services Limited, expressed his commitment to the project, stating that the agreement will promote sustainability in marine transport and is expected to create approximately 1,500 direct and indirect jobs within the state.
