Rivers State Commissioner for Transport, Collins Onunwo, has announced that the development of the maritime sector under Governor Siminalayi Fubara is currently progressing at a rapid pace.

Onunwo made the remarks during a visit from members of the Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria from the Rivers Commercial District at his office. He informed the delegation that a recently signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Acergy Marine and Oilfields Service Ltd and the Rivers State government aims to enhance marine services in the region.

Additionally, the commissioner revealed that the Fubara administration has acquired six gunboats to bolster security operations, addressing safety challenges along the waterways.

Earlier in the meeting, Amesinobi Israel Pepple, the State Chairman of the Maritime Workers Union, expressed the union’s eagerness to collaborate with the ministry to improve maritime operations in the state. He also praised Governor Fubara for his transformative efforts in the maritime sector, underscoring the positive changes taking place.
