Excitement has trailed the N3 million naira school fee grant made available by the Speaker, Rivers State House of Assembly, loyal to governor Siminalayi Fubara, RT. Hon. Victor Oko-Jumbo.
Mr. Stephen Banigo, Special Assistant on Media to the Speaker, explained that the three million naira for school fee grant was for students in public tertiary institutions of Bonny origin.
Banigo noted that the funds was made available in view of the current economic hardship plaguing the country and the need to ease the burden for parents and self-sponsored students.
He also expressed the Speaker’s readiness to ensure that finance does not hinder the educational pursuits of people in Bonny LGA.
The disbursement of funds to deserving students with well spelt out criteria was to commence with immediate effect as the speaker has approved the following persons as

- Mr Awoiyeala Allison – Secretary
- Comr Precious George-Hart – Member (SSA – Student Affairs)
- Comr Sylvanus Omoni – Member (BYF)
- Mr Jude Pepple – Member (BGF)
- Comr Isaac Tamunobarabonye Wilcox – Member (NUBS)
Commending the speaker over what he described as a nice gesture, Mr. Wellington Jack said, “this is highly commendable I tell you. This is a welcome development.
” By this, some families will be eased from the pressure of school fees payment in this period of hardship, hunger and difficulty.
“Of course we need more of these from not just the speaker but our political office holders. They have to. People are suffering, no job, no money, nothing. Rivers people are suffering seriously.”
