The Coalition of Rivers State leaders of thoughts, has accused the former governor of Rivers State who is now the minister of the FCT, Nyesom Wike, of contributing to the lingering political impasse in the state.
The coalition implied this at a press briefing in the Port Harcourt on Thursday, while reacting to the latest twist in the lingering stand-off between the pro-Wike lawmakers and the state governor.
Speaking on behalf of the group at Thursday’s briefing, the convener, High Chief Sunnie Chukumele, expressed regrets that the political situation in the state has regressed to where it was before the presidential intervention also known as the Abuja peace pact which was signed last year, as it prevailed on President Bola Tinubu to call Wike to other.
Chukumele said, “That our son, the FCT Minister can be said to be sufficiently linked to the unabating political crisis in his home state, Rivers State. The situation created in our dear state is unacceptable, regrettable and has consequences of throwing the state into an irredeemable crisis of unimaginable proportion.
“We call on our son the FCT Minister once more to rein in his henchmen and foot soldiers in the political crisis in the state, particularly the recalcitrant wing of the state legislature loyal to him, and as well the immediate past local government chairmen whose activities in the state are becoming felonious.
“That where this call falls on deaf ears, that, we, on behalf of the entire people of Rivers State, home and abroad sternly call on the president who our son Nyesom Wike is serving under in Abuja to call him to order henceforth, and that we say enough is enough.”
The body also extended warnings to the Martins Amaewhule led house of assembly to desist from plans to impeach governor Siminalayi Fubara or be set to face the consequences.
Recall that on Monday, July 8, 2024, Martins Amaewhule, on the heels of the appeal Court ruling and after a sitting with other lawmakers loyal to the former governor of the Rivers State, Nyesom Wike, ordered Governor Fubara to represent the 2024 appropriation bill to it within seven days.
Reacting the coalition said, “We call on Martins Amaewhule and his colleagues to jettison the idea of impeaching the governor of the state. We advice them that the impacts of the consequences of their threats should only be imagined.
“Let Amaewhule and his colleagues not ignite a fire they can never have the capacity to contain. They are inviting anarchy”.
The body further employed the judiciary to employ and apply extreme wisdom on matters concerning Rivers State brought before them, noting that public opinions on their management of matters emanating from Rivers State is negative.
The coalition therefore restated it’s unwavering support for the governor Fubara led administration, encouraging the governor to remain steadfast in seeing to the delivery of good governance to the people of Rivers State.
