The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State has urged heads of Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) at all levels of government to adopt the budgetary model successfully implemented by the Ministry of Interior under Hon. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, the Minister of Interior, for the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

The Ministry, employing a value-driven and bottom-up strategy, reportedly eliminated wastages and exceeded its N2 billion Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) target for 2024, achieving a record remittance of over N5.6 billion to the federal purse.

In a press statement issued by Darlington Nwauju, the Rivers State APC spokesperson, the party commended the Ministry’s achievements as a standard for effective governance and accountability.

The Ministry’s capability to complete multibillion-naira contracts without capital allocation was particularly highlighted, alongside its prioritisation of policies and projects that cater to the needs of ordinary Nigerians.

“We believe that adopting this value delivery strategy in budget implementation will help MDAs focus on needs assessment and ensure people-centred policies,” Nwauju stated.

He also called on Nigerians to monitor the implementation of budgets to ensure taxpayers’ money is utilised effectively.

The APC further urged the National Assembly to reward the Ministry’s exceptional performance by increasing its allocation in the 2025 budget.

Nwauju stressed that the Ministry’s oversight of key paramilitary agencies essential to national security demands enhanced funding for personnel, overheads, and capital projects.

The statement encouraged the media to spotlight exemplary performances, such as the Ministry of Interior’s, while continuing to expose wastages and corruption in public offices.

“Such a performing Ministry deserves commendation and greater support to surpass its 2024 achievements,” Nwauju added.

The APC reaffirmed its dedication to promoting accountability and prudent financial management across all government sectors, describing the Ministry of Interior’s achievements as a benchmark for public service excellence.
