First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, on Friday inaugurated a 100-bed capacity Mother and Child Hospital in Gombe.

She said the facility, named in her honour, was more than just a building but a doorway to life, hope and a healthier future for mothers and children across the North-East.

Tinubu stressed the importance of maternal and child healthcare in national development, noting that the hospital aligned with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Tinubu, which prioritises access to quality healthcare for women and children.

According to her, the hospital is expected to help reduce maternal and infant mortality rates while providing much-needed relief to families in Gombe State and neighbouring communities.

She expressed gratitude to Gov. Inuwa Yahaya, his wife, Asma’u Yahaya, and the people of the state for naming the facility after her.

Tinubu also commended the governor for sustained efforts to improve healthcare infrastructure and acknowledged Adejoke Orelope-Adefulire, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), for her role in driving the project.

Earlier, Orelope-Adefulire said the inauguration reaffirmed a collective commitment to deliver quality healthcare to vulnerable communities.

“This hospital represents a vital step in Nigeria’s journey towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly Goal 3: Good Health and Well-being for all,” she said.

She explained that the facility was among several Mother and Child Hospitals being built and equipped through her office in collaboration with state governments.

“The goal is to support them in reducing and eventually eradicating maternal and infant mortality, and to ensure equitable access to essential and universal healthcare for all,” she added.

The First Lady also inaugurated the College of Nursing and Midwifery, Gombe, constructed by the state government.
