The Nigeria Red Cross, in partnership with the United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF), has provided assistance to 7,300 women-led households in Gusau, Shinkafi, and Tsafe Local Government Areas of Zamfara State.

Speaking at the distribution event in Gusau on Monday, Abubakar Kyande, Secretary General of the Nigeria Red Cross, stated that the intervention was designed to address the challenges faced by vulnerable communities in the areas of education, health, and food security.

Kyande explained that beneficiaries received between N28,000 and N114,000, depending on the size and needs of their households.

This initiative specifically targeted the most vulnerable groups, including women-led households, persons with disabilities, and vulnerable children,” Kyande added.

He noted that the selection process involved close collaboration with community and religious leaders, as well as local government authorities.

Highlighting the hardships caused by insecurity and socio-economic challenges in Zamfara, Kyande called on government agencies, non-governmental organisations, and philanthropists to collaborate in supporting vulnerable families across the state.

We are reaching only three area councils at the moment, but we are extending a hand of friendship to all stakeholders to assist vulnerable children,” he said.
