A state high court sitting in Port Harcourt has postponed the hearing of a crucial suit aimed at halting the conduct of All Progressives Congress (APC) congresses in Rivers State. The case, initiated by a group of dissenting party members led by Tony Okocha, was deferred on Tuesday following a counter motion filed by the APC.
The plaintiffs, including APC member Okwu Joebrown Ndike and two others, are contesting the party’s authority to conduct congresses, claiming they were unjustly excluded despite purchasing nomination forms.
Justice Godswill Ogbomano adjourned the matter until Monday, December 16, for continued proceedings after receiving the APC’s counter motion. Previously, on November 22, Justice Ogbomano had issued an interim order preventing the congresses from proceeding; however, the dissenting group proceeded with their meeting and subsequently elected Tony Okocha as chairman.
The ongoing legal battle highlights significant divisions within the APC in Rivers State as it navigates internal challenges ahead of upcoming elections.
