The Lagos State Police Command says it will conduct an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) simulation exercise at Eko Atlantic City on Thursday, Aug. 28.

The Command’s spokesperson, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, in a statement on Wednesday, urged residents and visitors not to panic, explaining that the activity is a routine security drill designed to boost emergency response readiness.

“The Nigeria Police Force Explosives Ordnance Disposal , Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear Unit will be conducting an IED simulation exercise at the Eko Atlantic City on Aug. 28.

“This exercise is part of ongoing efforts to strengthen the preparedness and response capabilities of the police in the event of any bomb-related emergency,” Hundeyin said.

He explained that the exercise would feature controlled detonations by specialised units trained to manage explosive threats. Members of the public, he said, should expect blast sounds during the drill, but there will be no danger from shrapnel or other risks.

“Residents, workers, and visitors in and around the Eko Atlantic City area are therefore advised to remain calm, go about their lawful activities, and not panic when they hear the sounds,” he added.

Hundeyin assured that adequate safety measures had been put in place to prevent risks to lives or property.

He further disclosed that the state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Olohundare Jimoh, appealed for public cooperation and assured residents of the command’s commitment to their safety and well-being.
