Police Command in Akwa Ibom has arrested a man suspected of involvement in serial ATM card fraud.

Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Timfon John, said in a statement on Monday in Uyo that the suspect specialised in swapping ATM cards to carry out fraudulent withdrawals.

She said the arrest followed distress calls from two Uyo-based banks regarding the suspect’s activities.

“The suspect’s image was captured by the banks’ CCTV cameras, which led to his swift identification and arrest at a bank premises on Abak Road, Uyo, on Saturday,” she said.

Seven ATM cards from different banks were recovered from the suspect during the investigation.

“The suspect has also admitted that he operates alone and mainly in Cross River and Akwa Ibom,” she added.

She noted that a formal statement had been received from one of the victims, who also identified the suspect.

The suspect will be charged to court upon conclusion of the investigation.
