The Lagos State Police Command has detained a police inspector captured in a viral video assaulting an Uber driver.
The video, posted by a user identified as Oyindamola on X (formerly Twitter) with the handle @dammiedammie35, shows the officer repeatedly punching the driver with closed fists.
The post was captioned:
“A new video of Nigerian policemen violently beating an Uber driver. Please spread this video because this is someone’s father they’re beat!ng like an animal like this.”
In response, the command’s spokesperson, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the officer’s detention in a statement shared on his verified X handle @benHundeyin on Monday.
“The police officer has been summoned by the Complaint Response Unit (CRU) @LagosPoliceNG,” he wrote.
“He will be handed over to the provost department for appropriate disciplinary measures.”
Hundeyin emphasised that the command, under the leadership of CP Olohundare Jimoh, would not tolerate any form of misconduct or incivility towards members of the public.
