The Adamawa Police Command has arrested 72 suspects for various offences committed between July and September 2025.
Commissioner of Police, Morris Dankombo, disclosed this at a news conference in Yola on Friday.
He said 57 of the suspects had already been charged to court, while 15 others were still under investigation.
According to him, the arrests were made through joint efforts of the Anti-Kidnapping Crack Squad, Intelligence Units, Tactical Squad, Area Commanders and Divisional Police Officers.
The alleged crimes included kidnapping, robbery, culpable homicide, theft, abduction, rape and other sexual offences.
“We successfully recovered 15 illicit firearms including AK-47 rifles and locally made pistols, 111 rounds of assorted live ammunition, seven vehicles and 25 rustled cattle, and returned the cattle to the rightful owners,” he said.
Dankombo reminded officers to refrain from interfering in civil matters, stressing that their responsibilities were guided by the Constitution and the Police Act 2020.
“The Police must not interfere in purely civil disputes such as debt recovery, contractual disagreements, tenancy issues or family matters. The Police Act 2020 clearly prohibits officers from being used as tools in private disputes. Complainants should be referred to competent civil courts or alternative dispute resolution mechanisms,” he said.
He further urged members of the public to testify in court on rape cases, noting that without evidence, securing justice for survivors would remain difficult.
