The Delta State Police Command has arrested nine suspected kidnappers and rescued two abducted victims in Agbarho Community, Ughelli North Local Government Area.
Spokesman for the command, SP Bright Edafe, disclosed this to journalists on Wednesday in Warri, saying the arrests followed a distress call received by officers on Saturday.
According to Edafe, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Agbarho division, CSP Pius Eredei, led the operation after receiving information that gunmen had kidnapped two individuals in the area.
“Acting on the report, the DPO mobilised operatives and traced the suspects to Uvwiama forest in Agbarho. On sighting the police, the suspects fled in various directions, allowing officers to rescue the victims safely,” he said.
During the operation, police arrested nine suspects and recovered a cache of weapons including three pump-action guns, three double and single-barrel guns, a locally made firearm, and 13 live cartridges.
Edafe added that efforts to apprehend other fleeing members of the gang are ongoing.
