The Akwa Ibom Police Command says it has arrested seven suspects, including six males and a female, over alleged cult-related assault, armed robbery, and unlawful possession of firearms and human skull.
The Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Timfon John, disclosed this in a statement issued in Uyo on Monday.
John said the suspects were apprehended on Aug. 28 following a report received on Aug. 25 from a student of Akwa Ibom State Polytechnic, Ikot Osurua.
According to her, the student was ambushed along Ikot Osurua by members of the proscribed Ku Klux Klans Confraternity.
“The victim, who had renounced his membership of the group, was attacked with dangerous weapons and left unconscious with severe injuries. The assailants also carted away his Redmi 13C Android phone and ₦41,000 cash,” she said.
The PPRO explained that following the report, operatives launched an intelligence-led operation that led to the arrest of the suspects.
Items recovered from them include a locally made short gun, seven live cartridges, one fresh human skull, a bottle of suspected black oil, and a bottle of Guyanese oil, believed to be used for ritual purposes.
John added that investigation was ongoing, while efforts were in place to arrest fleeing members of the gang and recover more exhibits.
She assured that further updates would be communicated to the public.
