The Police in Lagos, on Wednesday, brought a 47-year-old man, Sunday Nweke before a Badagry Chief Magistrates’ Court over alleged N1.1 million land fraud.

The defendant, whose address is unknown, is facing a two-count charge of fraud and stealing.

The prosecutor, Insp. Ayodele Adeosun, told the court that the defendant committed the offences sometime in August, 2024, at Imeke area of Badagry, Lagos.

Adeosun said the defendant allegedly deceived the complainant, Ramota Awosile, that he was an agent and owner of a property.

“The defendant by false pretence obtained the sum of N1.1 million from the complainant to sell two-bedroom flat on half plot of land situated in Gbanko area of Badagry.

“Nweke converted the money to his own use by stealing it.

“The offences contravened Sections 314 and 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State,” he said.

The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Chief Magistrate Patrick Adekomaiya granted the defendant bail in the sum of N1 million with two sureties in like sum.

He ordered that N500,000 out of the N1 million should be deposited in the account of Court Registrar.

Adekomaiya adjourned the case until May 5, for mention.
