The Police, on Monday, arraigned a 37-year-old man, Fagbohun Kolawole, in an Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court over alleged assault and breach of peace.

The defendant of no fixed address, is standing trial on a two-count charge of assault and breach of peace.

He, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges preferred against him.

The prosecutor, Sgt. Alice Ojo, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on Jan.31, at about 12:30 p.m at Okeyinmi Area in Ado-Ekiti.

She alleged that the defendant obstructed and assaulted Insp Akinola Gbenro, while discharging his lawful duty by hitting him with his fist.

Ojo said that the defendant also conducted himself in a manner likely to cause the breach of peace.

She asked the court for an adjournment to enable her to study the case file and assemble her witnesses.

The prosecutor said the offence contravened Sections 187(a),(b) and 181(1),(d) of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State, 2021.

Counsel to the defendant, Mr Busuyi Ayorinde, urged the court to grant the defendant bail, with a promise that he would not jump bail.

The Chief Magistrate, Mr Abayomi Adeosun, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N20, 000 with one surety in like sum.

He adjourned the case till March 7, for hearing.
