Police on Friday arraigned a 33-year-old man, Sunday Michael, before an Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court over alleged church burglary and theft.
The defendant, of no fixed address, is facing a two-count charge of church burglary and stealing.
The Prosecutor, Insp. Olasunkanmi Bamikole, told the court that the defendant and others at large committed the offence on 14 September at Orisumibare in Ise-Ekiti.
He alleged that the defendant and his accomplices broke into Christ Apostolic Church, Oke Ayo, Orisumibare, Ise-Ekiti.
According to him, they stole two single speakers, one double speaker, one mixer engine, two wireless engines, two wireless microphones and one ordinary microphone, all valued at N1.5 million, belonging to the church.
Bamikole said the offence contravened Sections 325 and 302 of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State, 2021.
The prosecutor asked the court for an adjournment to enable him to study the case file and assemble witnesses.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Counsel to the defendant, Mr Oluwafemi Alabi, urged the court to grant bail, assuring that his client would not abscond.
In her ruling, Chief Magistrate Mrs Adefunke Anoma granted bail in the sum of N20,000 with one surety in like sum.
She ruled that the surety must be a civil servant not below Grade Level 14.
The case was adjourned until 27 October for hearing.
