The Plateau Football Association (PFA), has organised an Inter-Security Agency Football Tournament to boost synergy and collaboration among security apparatus in the state.
Mr Suleiman Kwande, the Chairman of FA in the state, said that the tournament was organised in collaboration with the State Government.
Kwande spoke shortly after the finals played between the team of the 3 Division of the Nigerian Army, Rukuba, near Jos and that of the Police Command in the state.
“We have seen the efforts of security agencies toward addressing all the security challenges in our dear state.
“As we all know, football brings people together, so we organised this tournament to promote unity and create stronger synergy among the various security agencies in the state.
“We have seen the efforts of the security agencies, particularly the military in ensuring that we have a peaceful Yuletide and harvest season in the state.
“This is also an avenue to harvest talents; we have seen some and we will bring them on board,”he said.
Kwande thanked Maj.-Gen. Abdulsalam Abubakar, the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 3 division for supporting PFA to organise the tournament.
Earlier, Mr Tamba Nuhu, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Youth and Sports Development, thanked PFA for organising the tournament.
He also commended the efforts of the security agencies toward tackling the myriad of security challenges bedevilling the state.
He promised that the state government would continue to support the security agencies in the state in their bid to stem the tides of insecurity in all parts of the state.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the 3 division’s team defeated the police team 1-0 in the finals to emerge the winner of the competition.
While the police team emerged first runner up, the team of Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) came 3rd in the tournament.
