Former Anambra Governor and 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, Mr Peter Obi, has donated ₦20 million to support victims of flooding in Mokwa, Niger State.
Obi was received in Minna on Monday by the Deputy Governor of Niger, Mr Yakubu Garba, who stood in for Governor Muhammad Bago. During his visit, Obi expressed his sympathy to the government and people of Niger over the tragic flooding incident.
According to correspondents, around 153 lives have been lost and properties worth millions of naira destroyed as a result of the disaster.
Obi offered prayers for the repose of the deceased and asked for divine comfort for the bereaved families.
He also informed the deputy governor of his intention to personally visit Mokwa at a later date to meet with the affected communities during their time of grief.
In response, Garba thanked Obi for his compassion and financial support to the flood victims. He accepted the donation on behalf of the state government and commended the former governor for his humanity and generosity.
