The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Youth League in Anambra has dismissed calls for the dissolution of the State Executive Committee (SEC) led by Mr. Chidi Chidebe, describing them as “baseless and malicious.”

The position was contained in a statement signed by Chibuzor Obanze, Leader of the PDP Youth League, and made available to journalists in Awka on Monday.

The group reaffirmed its support for the Chidebe-led executive, which it said was validly elected in October 2024, and pledged to defend the integrity of the party and its structures at all levels.

It accused two former lawmakers and a self-styled godfather of masterminding a campaign of calumny aimed at destabilising the PDP in Anambra.

According to the youth wing, the individuals had openly endorsed the governorship candidate of another party in “a brazen act of sabotage and anti-party activity,” while a candidate in a recent by-election allegedly traded his ticket to another platform.

“This campaign of falsehood is being orchestrated by three individuals who, though parading themselves as PDP members, have clearly pledged allegiance to the ruling party in Anambra.

“Similarly, a candidate nominated by our party for the by-election betrayed the PDP by allegedly trading the ticket, even as members were mobilising across the district,” the statement read.

The group lamented that two decades of efforts to grow the party in the state had been undermined by repeated acts of betrayal and urged the National Working Committee (NWC) to act decisively.

“We call on the national chairman and the NWC to ignore the falsehoods against the legitimate leadership of the party in Anambra.

“They should summon these three persons for questioning and subject them to appropriate disciplinary measures in line with the party’s constitution,” it added.

It would be recalled that the PDP Elders Council had earlier passed a vote of confidence in the Chidebe-led executive and urged party organs to disregard the calls for its dissolution.
