The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has paid tribute to former President Muhammadu Buhari, describing him as a courageous leader and a highly disciplined military officer devoted to national service.
In a statement issued in Abuja, the PDP, through its National Publicity Secretary Debo Ologunagba, expressed deep sadness over Buhari’s passing in a London hospital.
“The departed former president will be remembered by Nigerians for his roles and policies in government as Governor of Borno, Federal Commissioner for Petroleum and Natural Resources, Chairman of the defunct Petroleum Trust Fund, Military Head of State and later as democratically elected President,” the party stated.
The PDP extended its condolences to Buhari’s widow, Hajia Aisha Buhari, the entire Buhari family, the Federal Government, the Nigerian Army, the people and government of Katsina State, and the Daura Emirate.
It also offered prayers for divine forgiveness and eternal rest for the former leader.
President Bola Tinubu has ordered national flags to be flown at half-staff in honour of Buhari. Flying the flag at half-staff is a traditional gesture of mourning and respect for a prominent national figure.
