The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Cross River State says the faction loyal to FCT Minister Nyesom Wike will not produce the next state chairman.
The position was adopted by the Cross River South Senatorial District caucus during a meeting in Calabar on Wednesday.
According to Mr Asuquo Ekpo, the state vice chairman, the meeting addressed urgent political developments affecting the district and state. In a communique signed by Ekpo, the caucus condemned a recent Wike-loyal faction resolution in Abuja calling for an extension of the incumbent state chairman’s tenure.
Ekpo described Venatius Ikem’s leadership of the state executive as “riddled with conflict and divisive tendencies.” He reaffirmed the caucus’s commitment to an inclusive and rancour-free state congress scheduled for Sept. 27.
“The caucus resolved to present a united and formidable front at the forthcoming state congress and recalled the unfortunate experiences of 2023 when the party lost in the South,” he said.
The caucus also commended National Woman Leader Mrs Amina Bryhm for her decisive steps to stabilise the PDP in the state.
The PDP in Cross River remains divided between the Wike-led faction and that of former Vice President Alhaji Atiku, who has since joined the ADC.
